Since
1986, the Louisiana Children's Museum has served as an educational and
cultural resource, and favorite destination for children, families, school
groups, educators and tourists alike. Locatel in New Orleans' Historic
Warehouse Arts and Museum District, the Museum was originally housed in
an 8,000 square foot area on the third floor of the 1860s building it currently
occupies.
In 1994, the LCM Board of Directors purchased the entire building and expanded the Museum into the renovated 45,000 square foot space. Todaly, exhibits and programs occupy approximately 30,000 square feet and the Louisiana Children's Museum welcomes more than 160,000 visitors annually. Additionally, LCM currently boasts five varied outreach programs that travel to area schools and beyond reaching more than 25,000 children annually.
Presently, the Louisiana Children's Museum is in the midst of an all-encompassing, five-year Master Plan project designed to bring the Museum's exhibits together in a tightly woven and regionally themed environment that incorporates Louisiana education content standards and academic pathways.
